Review: Highland Barbarian by Hannah Howell

New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell returns to the Highlands of Scotland for a sensual new series about two twin brothers both tempted and tormented by their passions--and driven by the love that will shape their destinies. . .

Sir Artan Murray was right when he decided that the dying old man who bid him collect his niece didn't know her at all. The furious woman facing him is neither "sweet" nor "biddable." She demands the brawny Highlander return her to the wedding party from which he took her. But Artan has no intention of allowing so spirited and bewitching a creature to endure a loveless marriage to a ruthless lord for her clan's sake. He aims to woo the lass and to show her that true love also yields unforgettable pleasure. . .
Cecily Donaldson knows a bond forged by danger and desperation cannot endure. But Artan's touch leaves her breathless, and she knows this to be her one chance to experience true passion before an arranged marriage seals her fate. Yet once begun, passion cannot be denied. . .nor can a love with the promise to change everything. . .

Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Howell's novel Highland Barbarian.

Who wouldn't love a lead hero like Sir Artan Murray? He was a sweet, protective alpha male with an unwavering sense of honor. I've probably read hundreds of highlander stories, but Ms. Howell definitely sets herself apart with relateable and fascinating characters and a well-developed romance. As a heroine, Cecily is definitely different from the average "damsel in distress". Despite her reserved attitude among her uncle and aunt, she's fierce and yet sensible. You won't find a drama queen here. While she could have put Artan's life in danger by resisting her kidnapping, she didn't. She chose to believe him (maybe not fully) until she could gather more evidence.

While Ms. Howell includes a fair share of drama throughout this story, it isn't over the top like so many others I've read. It's balanced and well drawn out. The story has a steady flow with interesting and exciting incidents to keep you glued until the very end.

I'm definitely adding the rest of this series on my list!

Review: Dark Skye by Kresley Cole

Monday, August 8, 2016 0 comments

In this highly anticipated fifteenth novel in the Immortals After Dark series, #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole spins a sultry tale of a mighty warrior scarred inside and out and the beguiling sorceress with the power to heal him—or vanquish him forever.

ETERNAL OBSESSION

As a boy, Thronos, prince of Skye Hall, loved Lanthe, a mischievous Sorceri girl who made him question everything about his Vrekener clan. But when the two got caught in the middle of their families’ war, tragedy struck, leaving Thronos and Lanthe bitter enemies. Though centuries have passed, nothing can cool his seething need for the beautiful enchantress who scarred his body—and left an even deeper impression on his soul.

ENDLESS YEARNING

Lanthe, a once-formidable sorceress struggling to reclaim her gifts, searches for love and acceptance with all the wrong immortal suitors. But she’s never forgotten Thronos, the magnificent silver-eyed boy who protected her until she was ripped from the shelter of his arms. One harrowing night changed everything between them. Now he’s a notorious warlord with a blood vendetta against Lanthe, hunting her relentlessly.

CAN THE HEAT OF DESIRE BURN BRIGHTER THAN VENGEANCE?

With their families locked in conflict and battles raging all around them, will Thronos and Lanthe succumb to the brutal chaos that threatens everything they cherish? Or will the fragile bond they formed so long ago spark a passion strong enough to withstand even the darkest doubts?

Review: I'm so in love with Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark Series. Dark Skye was a wonderful second chance paranormal romance. I think one of my favorite things about this story was that it featured a male virgin. Too many times we see the female character as the virgin who's claimed by the very "experienced" Alpha Male. It was a pleasant surprise to have the roles reversed. Even more so because Lanthe didn't shy away from her sexuality. She refused to feel ashamed of the men she'd been with. And she made it her mission to teach Thronos how to be a good love, although he didn't need much teaching.

Kresley Cole captured me from the beginning of the prologue and kept me glued until the end of this story. I love how Thronos and Lanthe's love blooms and even more so because they have a history together. I highly recommend Dark Skye if you're in the mood for something sexy that falls into the paranormal realm. Cole is an amazing writer! You won't regret reading this series.

Review: Off the Clock by Roni Loren

FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE LOVING ON THE EDGE NOVELS, THE FIRST IN A SENSUAL NEW SERIES

Overtime has never felt so good…

Marin Rush loves studying sex. Doing it? That’s another story. In the research lab, Marin’s lack of practical knowledge didn’t matter, but now that she’s landed a job at The Grove, a high-end, experimental sex therapy institute, she can’t ignore the fact that the person most in need of sexual healing may be her.

Dr. Donovan West, her new hotshot colleague, couldn’t agree more. Donovan knows that Marin’s clients are going to eat her alive unless she gets some hands-on experience. And if she fails at the job, he can say goodbye to a promotion, so he assigns her a list of R-rated tasks to prepare her for the wild clientele of The Grove’s X-wing.

But some of those tasks are built for two, and when he finds Marin searching for a candidate to help her check off her list, Donovan decides there’s only one man for the job—him. As long as they keep their erotic, off-the-clock activities strictly confidential and without strings, no one will get fired—or worse, get attached…

Exclusive to this edition only—a bonus short story

Review:

One of my absolute favorites! I'm never disappointed when it comes to Roni Loren's books. Off the Clock had the perfect balance of steamy sex scenes and flawed characters. One of the things I found most impressive about this story was the love and detail given to Marin & Donovan's professional roles. Despite the fictional setting, Loren manages to pull you in with relatable characters struggling to get past their own personal demons. Even the secondary characters in Off the Clock shine. I do hope we see more of them in the rest of the Pleasure Principle series.
Readers, if you're not sure whether you should pick this one up or not, get it! I highly recommend this if you're looking for a unique love story, but still want that sort of office romance. I won't lie, I was hooked to the very end. Nothing could tear me away from this story. ;)

Review: The Allure of Dean Harper by R.S. Grey

Subject: You’re a flippin’ idiot

Good morning my dear, naive friend,

I hope you’re enjoying a breakfast of regret and sorrow.

Why?

Because you sent me to work for Dean Harper, aka a control freak in a tailor-made suit. Sure he owns the trendiest restaurants in NYC, but c'mon Jo, his ego makes Kanye West look like the Dalai Lama.

He's the type of guy that only hears the word “no” when it's followed by “don’t stop.”

Working for Dean Harper would be like selling my soul to the devil…and before you say anything, I don’t care if the devil has punch-you-in-the-gut brown eyes and an ass to match. My soul isn’t for sale.

Regretfully yours,
Lily

The Allure of Dean Harper is a full-length standalone romance with overlapping characters from The Allure of Julian Lefray. Both books can be read separately. Chronologically, The Allure of Julian Lefray happens first.

Review: The Allure of Dean Harper is a fun, sweet Romance with plenty of laughs! If you’re looking for a humorous romance with a hot arrogant jerk who melts your heart, then get ready to meet Dean Harper. In this story, he’s our brooding Mr. Darcy and Lily is our smart, fiery heroine.

As a first time reader of R.S. Grey, I was pleasantly surprised by how entertaining the storyline was. The characters were well developed and the dialogue had me laughing throughout the night. Grey mixes the perfect balance of angst and humor between Dean & Lily. I even found myself racing through some of the scenes to see them together again. Kudos to R.S. Grey for writing such a wonderful story!

Note: If you’re looking for detailed sex scenes, you won’t find them here. Grey’s scenes are HOT, but most of them fade to black.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this fun, lovable story. It’s well-written, engaging, and Dean Harper definitely makes a great new book boyfriend!

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things...everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors are Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things funny. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
