CONFESS
BY COLLEEN HOOVER
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a new novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.
Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.
For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping some major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.
The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…
Review: I have a confession. Confess is the first book that has ever made me cry within the first few pages. That alone should say a lot. If an author can make you feel for a character within the first few paragraphs, damn she must be good. And Colleen Hoover definitely is!
Although this story was heartbreaking, it was also extremely beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I was drawn in by Ms. Hoover's writing and the unique story line. I loved the real confessions and the art that was intertwined throughout the novel. It reminded me a lot of PostSecret, an online community where people mail in secrets. The fusion between secrets and Owen's art was incredibly raw and thought provoking.
I can't express enough how much I really enjoyed the characters in this book. Their flaws and their past made them more real and easier to love. I have to #confess that Colleen always does an amazing job adding depth to her characters, and she didn't disappoint me with Owen and Auburn. Although I wish the end of the book would've shown more into their future, I really enjoyed watching these two characters fall in love. The story definitely had an emotional pull on me. I think the only thing I did not enjoy about Confess was Trey's character. I did not like him at all.
Overall, I loved Confess and I will definitely be re-reading this story again. This isn't the first book that I've read by Colleen and it definitely won't be the last. I can't wait to see what Colleen Hoover does next!
