Review: Incarnate by Jodi Meadows is a unique and intriguing read. Although the book starts off at a slow pace it quickly picks up leaving you breathless. This book drips creativity! Ana is definitely a 3 dimensional character and although she’s referred to as a “no-soul,” let me just say she’s got plenty. Jodi Meadows builds a very fairytale/fantastical world with sylphs, dragons and a dashing young man named Sam. I also wanted to point out that although this story is fantastical it also has some really great scenes that complicate Ana’s character in a good way. For example the relationship she has with her mother and her insecurities for being seen as a “no soul.” It was hard putting this book down and minus the bathroom breaks I read it from front to back in one sitting. I love the idea of souls being reincarnated and I thought it was definitely an interesting move to write about a girl who’s supposed to be a new soul or rather a “no soul.” I love the mysterious atmosphere that slowly builds throughout the book and you can’t help, but wonder why Ana is the only “no soul.” Not all of my questions were answered with this first book, but I think that’s great because it left me wanting more! I can’t wait to read Meadow’s next book in the series.
